Fingerprint Technician

About the position

The Fingerprint Technician position involves processing and registering individuals charged with criminal offenses at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center and Police Operations Center. The role requires direct interaction with inmates, including fingerprinting and collecting DNA samples, while maintaining professionalism in potentially confrontational situations. This position operates within a 24-hour records section, necessitating flexibility in work hours, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Process and register sex offenders at the Police Operations Center.
• Fingerprint and photograph adult and juvenile criminal suspects brought into the Police Operations Center and Criminal Justice Center.
• Collect Buccal DNA samples from individuals in custody.
• Fingerprint public applicants and new employees, and manage related fees.
• Perform computer checks using local, state, and national systems.
• Create, update, and maintain criminal and police database files.
• Process reports for inclusion into the Colorado Springs Police Department's records management system.
• Staff the National Crime Information Center/Colorado Crime Information Center desk.
• Provide advice, records, and information to citizens and law enforcement agencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of full-time professional experience in a related field.
• Valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license.
• NCIC OSN certification within three months of hire.
• Ability to type 35 net words per minute.

Nice-to-haves

• Two years of full-time responsible experience in a criminal justice, corrections, or law enforcement setting.
• Fingerprinting experience and/or training.
• Experience working with CJIS, NCIC, or CCIC.
