About the position

The Material Handler is responsible for the movement of materials throughout the site, including loading and unloading trailers, and managing raw materials, work in process, and finished goods. This role is essential for maintaining inventory accuracy and supporting production operations in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Move material to/from raw, WIP, Finished, Shipping, Receiving, and manufacturing areas.
  • Unload/load trucks/tankers with incoming/outgoing materials.
  • Verify materials against receiving/shipping documents.
  • Complete appropriate transactions to document the movement of material within the Inventory Management System.
  • Support inventory accuracy by completing warehouse and departmental cycle counts and correcting discrepancies.
  • Help manage winding drum and rack inventories.
  • Pick up and transfer material racks, pallets, and other consumable supplies to/from production areas as required.
  • Condense warehouse space and maintain good housekeeping.
  • Perform all assignments, duties, and tasks in a safe manner following standard procedures and practices.
  • Encourage others to adhere to safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Correct and/or report all unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Perform duties to continuously improve quality and productivity.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work area.
  • Assist in equipment maintenance activities as directed.
  • Communicate and coordinate necessary information to appropriate department/shift employees to ensure effective operations.
  • Lead in the recycling of pallets, cardboard, and scrap materials.
  • Support all 5S housekeeping activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or 3+ years of relevant manufacturing work experience.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Strong commitment to safety as a core value.
  • Strong service and quality focus; ability to address issues effectively and take initiative to understand root causes.
  • Ability to actively contribute in a team-based environment and encourage open communication.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in essential tasks of the job and willingness to learn and share knowledge.
  • Record of flexibility and dependability to support production and customer focus.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including short-notice requests.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, especially strong MFG Pro transactional skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-5+ years of previous material handling experience.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, mathematical aptitude, mechanical/technical aptitude, and logical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement efforts and knowledge about ELS Operating Principles preferred.
  • Adaptive, flexible, able to handle ambiguity.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
