The Fire Alarm CAD Designer position is a full-time role that utilizes AutoCAD equipment and software to create detailed drawings, as-builts, sketches, and diagrams specifically for fire protection and safety systems. This role is integral to the Engineering team, as it involves preparing project fire alarm design specifications and ensuring that all designs are compliant with relevant codes. The designer will produce a variety of documentation including floor plans, one-line diagrams, risers, and detailed drawings. Additionally, the position requires performing voltage drop and battery calculations, as well as maintaining an updated library of symbols and drawings for future projects. The designer will participate in all phases of project development, from conceptual designs and presentations to construction documents and production. Collaboration is key, as the designer will work with various stakeholders including construction management teams, external consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives. The role also involves assisting with the review of Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals during the construction administration phase of projects. Attention to detail is crucial, as the designer must ensure that all project documents are prepared consistently and accurately, with the correct base files and graphic information arranged properly before submission for review.

Responsibilities

  • Use AutoCAD equipment and software to produce detailed drawings, as-builts, sketches, and diagrams for fire protection/safety systems.
  • Prepare project fire alarm design specifications in collaboration with the Engineering team.
  • Produce code-compliant fire detection and alarm system design drawings and submittal packages.
  • Create floor plans, one-line diagrams, risers, diagrams, and details for fire alarm systems.
  • Perform voltage drop and battery calculations as required for projects.
  • Develop and maintain an updated library of symbols and drawings for future projects.
  • Participate in all project phases including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Collaborate with design disciplines, construction management teams, external consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives.
  • Assist with the review of RFIs and submittals during the construction administration phase of projects.

Requirements

  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification (level 2) is required.
  • Minimum of two years of fire alarm experience is required.
  • Knowledge of IFC, NFPA, and NEC codes is required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is preferred, with at least one year of experience in each.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills are essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Motivated and willing to learn, with the ability to take classes on product training.
  • Ability to perform site visits to survey and create drawings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Revit is preferred but not mandatory.
