About the position

The Fire Alarm Designer - CAD Drafter position at Coastal Fire and Integration Systems involves designing and drafting fire protection systems using CAD software. The role requires a strong understanding of fire alarm/life safety design, relevant codes, and the ability to produce accurate shop drawings and reports. The ideal candidate will work in a collaborative environment focused on innovation and continuous learning, contributing to the company's reputation for excellence in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction documents including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Design and lay out fire protection systems for complex buildings using CAD software.
  • Prepare permit level design drawings, specifications, voltage drop calculations, and analyses of fire protection systems.
  • Identify corrective measures and design solutions as needed.
  • Conduct technical research and document alternative methods and equivalencies.
  • Support the team with technical information as required.
  • Participate in project meetings with clients and other professionals at various locations.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously based on complexity.
  • Submit, deliver, and pick up plans to/from the city, job site, or client's office; coordinate plan status with the plan checker.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of low voltage communications systems.
  • Competency in advanced fire alarm design (High-rise, Smoke control, Voice, etc.).
  • Proficient knowledge of current codes such as NFPA, IBC, and fire protection engineering principles.
  • Professional licensing or certification in the area of expertise, such as NICET or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD software, along with Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience in preparing and writing reports on fire protection issues.
  • Knowledge of product lines such as Kidde, EST, and Notifier.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD (1 year preferred).
  • Experience in CAD drafting (1 year preferred).
  • Relevant experience in fire protection design (3 years preferred).
