About the position

The Fire Alarm Designer (CAD) position involves designing and laying out fire protection systems for complex buildings using CAD software. The role requires reading and interpreting construction documents, adhering to relevant codes, and preparing permit-level design drawings and specifications. The designer will actively participate in pre-planning the overall fire protection system design and must demonstrate competency in advanced fire alarm design.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret construction documents including drawings, specifications, and contracts.
• Design and lay out fire protection systems for complex buildings using CAD software.
• Adhere to NFPA, local, and other national codes as appropriate.
• Prepare permit-level design drawings, specifications, voltage drop calculations, and analyses of fire protection systems.

Requirements

• Possess a working knowledge of low voltage communications systems.
• Demonstrate competency in advanced fire alarm design (High-rise, Smoke control, Voice, etc.).
• Possess proficient knowledge in current codes such as NFPA, IBC, and principles of fire protection engineering.
• Be professionally licensed or certified in the area of expertise, such as NICET or equivalent experience.
• Be proficient in AutoCAD software, along with Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Have experience preparing and writing reports detailing specific fire protection issues.
• Possess good communication and analytic skills.
