About the position
The Fire Alarm & Security Apprentice position at Summit Fire & Security is designed for individuals looking to start a career in fire protection. The role involves assisting the Fire Alarm Superintendent in the installation of fire alarm systems, contributing to a team that plays a crucial role in saving lives. This position offers an opportunity to learn and develop skills necessary for advancement to a Fire Alarm Technician.
Responsibilities
- Assist Fire Alarm Superintendent and project lead with installation of conduit, low voltage wiring, control panels, and other fire alarm equipment.
- Keep tools available and in serviceable working condition on job site.
- Assist in cleaning job site, tools, and equipment.
- Carry equipment, such as ladders, tools, and replacement parts from vehicle or laydown area to required location.
- Learn and develop working knowledge of fire alarm and special hazards installation under various teaching practices.
- Read and learn NFPA 72 and NEC 70 to obtain NICET Certification and necessary skills for advancement.
- Understand and follow SFS's Safety program, SDS book, and Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in weekly Toolbox talks.
- Know where all related safety documentation is at all times on each project.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 0 years of Fire Life Safety Industry experience, specifically in Fire Alarm, required.
- 1+ years of professional computer skills.
- Desire and ability to learn the skills necessary for promotion to a Fire Alarm & Security Technician.
- Efficient time management skills and developed organizational skills.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Ability to collaborate and work with all levels of employees.
- Strong diligence and accuracy in work.
- Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English.

- Experience in the Fire Life Safety Industry is a plus.
