About the position

The Fire Protection System Designer role involves designing fire alarm, sprinkler, and fire suppression systems for commercial projects. The position requires strong technical design skills, excellent communication abilities, and adherence to safety codes and standards. The designer will collaborate with team members and clients to ensure that all designs meet regulatory requirements and client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer requirements and collaborate with team members to gather necessary information for system design.
  • Plan and design fire alarm and sprinkler systems using AutoCAD, REVIT, AutoSPRINK, and/or HydraCAD.
  • Adhere to NFPA codes and local building code compliance requirements.
  • Conduct field reviews and site surveys to verify design accuracy.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, and construction documents.
  • Meet client needs and support project management with effective communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Develop detailed fire alarm and sprinkler system designs for commercial projects.
  • Create accurate and code-compliant design drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to understand project requirements.
  • Conduct site visits to gather necessary information for design development.
  • Prepare material and equipment specifications and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with installation teams to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of designs and revisions.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of experience in sprinkler design, fire protection, fire alarm, fire suppression, or plumbing design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Plumbing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, MS Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD, Revit, and/or other fire protection design software.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Understanding of NFPA Standards and Building Codes.
  • Strong understanding of system installation practices.
