About the position

The Fire Alarm Technician role involves installing, repairing, and upgrading fire alarm systems primarily at Walmart stores within a 4-6 hour radius of the technician's home. This position requires expertise in commercial fire alarm systems, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently. Technicians must be comfortable with night work and extensive travel, often for up to two weeks at a time. Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, or upgrade fire alarm systems and program control panels according to building plans and electrical layouts.
  • Mount sensors at appropriate locations, including drilling holes for cabling and accessing crawlspaces or attics.
  • Ensure all work complies with current codes and regulations.
  • Run low voltage cabling in commercial buildings, including drilling concrete walls and limited conduit work.
  • Complete all wiring, connections, and equipment installations to ensure compliance with electrical and fire codes.
  • Test newly installed fire alarm systems and component devices to ensure they are operational.
  • Troubleshoot new system installations to ensure proper functioning and compliance with local, county, state, or federal codes, and legal and/or insurance requirements.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in Fire Alarm systems installation and troubleshooting.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record (no DUI or DWI in the last three years).
  • Current/valid state-required Physical Security license and/or Life Safety license in the applicable technology.
  • Experience reading blueprints and site maps.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards, including NFPA 70 and 72.
  • Excellent customer relationship and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting switches and routers.
  • Certification to operate a BOOM or scissor lift, with the ability to work at heights.

Nice-to-haves

  • NICET certification (Preferred, but not required).
  • Experience with burglar alarms, access control, and CCTV is a plus.
