About the position

The Fire and Rescue Budget Analyst plays a crucial role in developing, preparing, and administering the departmental budget for the Fire Department. This position involves financial analysis and monitoring to ensure effective oversight and management of funds, contributing to the overall fiscal accountability and financial planning of expenditures.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development and preparation of the budget for the Fire Department.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and analyzes expenditures, revenues, and changes in financial status.
  • Creates department-wide statistics and analyzes data for performance reports.
  • Drafts and prepares routine financial reports such as cost analysis and performance data.
  • Delivers non-routine reports and responds to special requests for financial information.
  • Communicates and collaborates with department staff and other city departments.
  • Reviews and prepares routine financial reports to monitor revenue projections.
  • Performs any other work as needed or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, finance, or business field.
  • Three years of experience in financial analysis, budget planning, or professional accounting.
  • PC skills for spreadsheet analysis and financial software utilization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a specified field with one year of required experience.
  • High school diploma or GED with seven years of required experience.
