About the position

The City of Green Bay is seeking dedicated individuals to join the Fire Department as Fire Fighters. This full-time position involves performing critical fire suppression and emergency medical services, while also maintaining department property and equipment. The role requires physical endurance and the ability to work in extreme conditions, reflecting the department's commitment to diversity and community representation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform fire suppression duties including connecting, dragging, and carrying heavy hoses over various terrains.
  • Maneuver heavy nozzles and direct fire streams during firefighting operations.
  • Raise and climb ladders to access elevated areas during emergencies.
  • Carry and operate all fire suppression-related equipment effectively.
  • Force entry through doors and windows and ventilate buildings as needed.
  • Conduct rescue operations to remove individuals from danger.
  • Perform emergency medical work as an EMT/Paramedic, including treatment and patient transport.
  • Engage in salvage and overhaul work, including pulling down ceilings and walls.
  • Maintain department property by cleaning hoses, tools, and fire apparatus.
  • Conduct service calls for gas leaks, lockouts, and other public safety issues.
  • Inspect public buildings and conduct tours of department facilities.
  • Participate in ongoing training and assume duties of engineer as directed.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection Technician, Fire Medic, or related field.
  • Current EMT-Basic certification.
  • Current certification as a Fire Fighter II by the State of Wisconsin or an IFSAC accredited agency.
  • Valid CPAT Certification obtained within the last 12 months of application submission.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of fire prevention and suppression.
  • Skill in operating firefighting equipment and dealing with the public.
  • Considerable skill in oral and written communication.
