About The Position

The Fire Inspector is responsible for investigating and enforcing City and State fire codes and ordinances. This role involves inspecting buildings for compliance, conducting life safety inspections, and ensuring adherence to fire prevention standards. The Fire Inspector works under the general direction of the Fire Marshal and plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety through fire code enforcement and education.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience as a Fire Inspector with residential/commercial code enforcement experience.
• Certification as a Fire Inspector I by the State of Florida.
• Valid Class 'E' Florida driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with fire investigation equipment and techniques.
• Knowledge of building, electrical, and plumbing codes.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Monitor geographical boundaries of the City for compliance with fire codes.
• Inspect buildings for fire prevention code compliance.
• Conduct building, site, and protective system plan reviews.
• Resolve violations through voluntary compliance or enforcement processes.
• Conduct research to develop data and information as required.
• Disseminate information to the public using communication devices.
• Provide testimony in code violation matters as necessary.
• Keep records and prepare documentation/reports of activities and cases.
• Conduct life safety inspections of commercial establishments and multi-family residences.
• Conduct technical inspections of new building construction for code conformance.
• Advise owners, builders, and contractors on fire safety and code compliance.
• Investigate complaints of fire safety hazards and order actions to comply with codes.
• Be on call after hours for investigations of suspicious fires.
