About the position

The Fire Protection Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) will serve as the technical authority for assigned electro-mechanical fire protection systems, which may include water delivery systems such as fire pumps and piping systems, fire suppression piping/distribution systems, and fire alarming devices. While direct fire protection experience is not a prerequisite, the candidate will be expected to provide technical support to maintenance, manufacturing, and safety organizations concerning these systems. This role involves defining operational requirements, performing technical evaluations and calculations, conducting fieldwork on assigned systems, and managing design changes through a management of change control process. The engineer will also be responsible for interpreting drawings and technical specifications related to the assigned systems and will need to become familiar with NFPA code requirements. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering/fire protection engineering or related engineering disciplines with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA, or a Master's degree with a minimum 3.3/4.0 GPA, or a PhD with a minimum 3.5 GPA.
  • Minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement applies up to 4 years post-graduation; beyond that, engineering experience supersedes GPA.
  • Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2, including a Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related experience, and at least 1 year of nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering/Technology.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) is preferred but not required.
  • 7 plus years of experience with 3-5 years relevant experience with Fire Systems.
