About the position

The Fire Protection Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) will serve as the technical authority for electro-mechanical fire protection systems, including water delivery and fire suppression systems. The role involves providing technical support, defining operational requirements, performing evaluations, and managing design changes. The engineer will also interpret technical drawings and specifications while ensuring compliance with NPFA code requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical authority over assigned electro-mechanical fire protection systems.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance, manufacturing, and safety organizations.
  • Define operational requirements and perform technical evaluations and calculations.
  • Conduct field work on assigned systems and manage design changes through a management of change control process.
  • Interpret drawings and technical specifications for assigned systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering/fire protection engineering or related engineering disciplines with a minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA, or a Master's degree with a minimum 3.3/4.0 GPA, or a PhD with a minimum 3.5 GPA.
  • Must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2, including relevant job-related experience and nuclear experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years job-related experience and at least 1 year of nuclear experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering/Technology.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred but not required.
  • 7+ years of experience with 3-5 years relevant experience with Fire Systems.
