About the position

Michael Baker International is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join their team. The role involves overseeing all aspects of fire protection engineering, including proposal preparation, complete system design, site evaluations, and testing and commissioning of systems. The engineer will work on various projects with minimal supervision, ensuring compliance with safety standards and building codes.

Responsibilities

• Complete fire protection system designs and serve as the designer of record for various systems including sprinklers, fire pumps, and fire alarms.
• Manage project budgets and work schedules effectively.
• Assist junior staff in project completion and development.
• Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler and fire pump design.
• Analyze life safety requirements for buildings, ensuring compliance with building codes and conducting occupant load calculations and egress analysis.
• Conduct on-site system evaluations and assist with final system testing.
• Summarize submittals and contractor Requests for Information for review.
• Coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5 years of professional experience in fire protection engineering.
• P.E. License is required.
• Experience in fire protection system design, including fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, clean agent systems, and fire alarm systems.
• Knowledge of building and design codes, specifically IBC, NFPA 101, NFPA 13, and NFPA 72.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
• Experience with hydraulic calculations is preferred.
