FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST

About the position

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Assistant Chief for Health and Safety responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive Fire Department Occupational Health and Safety Program of a sufficient magnitude for all functional areas of the base Fire Emergency Services Flight. This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19. As the department's Health and Safety Officer (HSO), plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities necessary to implement a comprehensive Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultation, direction and guidance regarding all aspects of Fire Department Occupational Health and Safety.
• Prepare and develop specialized Flight Management Plans and Standard Operation Policies/Guides defining mishap prevention, handling, and storage procedures.
• Manage the Hazardous Materials Response Program to prepare, equip, and respond to emergencies involving hazardous materials.
• Act as the primary Incident Safety Officer (ISO) and participate within the incident management system.
• Plan investigations and analyze mishaps and hazardous conditions to determine origin, causes, and contributing elements.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship Required.
• Males must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
• Must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
