Fire Rescue Driver Engineer

About the position

The Driver Engineer (Fire Rescue) is responsible for skilled and technical work involving firefighting, emergency medical response, and vehicle operation. This position requires the individual to safely operate and maintain fire apparatus and equipment, deliver emergency care, and protect life and property during fire, rescue, and hazardous situations. The role includes responding to fire and emergency calls, driving emergency vehicles, conducting search and rescue operations, administering emergency medical care, and participating in training and physical fitness activities.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire and emergency calls; dons protective gear and operates firefighting and rescue tools.
• Drives emergency vehicles to scenes safely and efficiently; maintains equipment logs and ensures operational readiness.
• Operates heavy-duty diesel pumper and aerial trucks, managing water flow, pressure, and apparatus systems.
• Conducts search and rescue operations in various structures, manages fire suppression systems, and utilizes high-rise building equipment.
• Administers emergency medical care and assists in patient extrication, ventilation, and salvage operations.
• Participates in physical fitness, training, fire drills, pre-fire surveys, and recordkeeping for emergency preparedness.
• Maintains apparatus and division equipment, supports evacuation efforts during disasters, and assists in arson investigations.
• Completes additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Valid Certificate of Compliance as outlined in the Florida Division of State Fire Marshal Uniform Fire Safety Rules and Standards Chapter 4A-37.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a full-time paid Firefighter in an organized, public sector, career Fire Department within the State of Florida.
• Valid license as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic issued by the State of Florida Department of Health.
• Driving history requirements including no more than 12 points within 24 months and no alcohol/drug-related offenses within 36 months.
• Valid American Heart Association CPR 'BLS for Health Care Providers' card or the American Red Cross Professional CPR card.
• Valid American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support card and Pediatric Advanced Life Support card.
• Valid Emergency Vehicle Operator Course Certification card or equivalent.
• Valid State of Florida Pump Operator Certification.
• Aerial Operations Certificate (45hr) FSFC #BFST703/ATPC703.
• Valid driver's license and ability to secure a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of employment.
• National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications: ICS-100, ICS-200, IS-700, IS-800.

Nice-to-haves

• Maintain a valid certification as a Paramedic issued by the State of Florida Department of Health.
