About the position

The Fire Service Technician V at Johnson Controls is responsible for diagnosing, servicing, and repairing electronic fire alarm systems and related building system products. This role requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team to ensure customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. The technician will also participate in on-call rotations and may mentor junior team members, contributing to the overall success of the service team.

Responsibilities

  • Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center and ascertain equipment/system problems.
  • Diagnose problems and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and related products at customer sites.
  • Follow troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals and notices to repair equipment.
  • Service, troubleshoot, and install various manufacturers' Fire & Life Safety systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and operational product manuals.
  • Exhibit excellent customer service skills by communicating with district staff and customers.
  • Complete Service Acknowledgements with proper coding through communication devices.
  • Obtain customer signatures upon completed service call assignments.
  • Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation.
  • Help train or mentor others on the service team.
  • Provide solutions and outcomes to customers at the time of service.

Requirements

  • 5+ years documented experience in low voltage electrical systems, including Fire/Life Safety systems, Access Control, Nurse Call, and Paging systems.
  • NICET II certification (preferred).
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and operational/product manuals.
  • Knowledge of test equipment, multi-meter, digital analyzer, and commissioning devices.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of performing physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
  • Able to work in unusual positions such as climbing ladders and working in crawl spaces.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record that meets company requirements.
