About the position

The Fire Sprinkler Estimator at DFS Fire Systems, LLC is responsible for preparing cost estimates and pricing for the installation, modernization, and retrofitting of fire sprinkler systems across various property types. This role requires a solid understanding of fire protection systems, construction processes, and local building codes, along with effective communication and negotiation skills to work closely with clients and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate project costs by analyzing specifications, drawings, and blueprints to determine material, labor, and equipment requirements.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates for fire sprinkler installations, retrofits, or system upgrades.
  • Develop labor, material, and time schedules to create comprehensive project estimates.
  • Compile detailed bids and proposals for clients, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and design requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other professionals to prepare accurate bids and proposals.
  • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive prices for materials and services.
  • Stay updated on fire protection industry standards, local building codes, and regulations.
  • Ensure estimates comply with all relevant laws, safety requirements, and insurance standards.
  • Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to clarify project requirements and scope of work.
  • Address client questions, concerns, and changes during the estimation phase.
  • Monitor and adjust estimates to ensure alignment with project budgets and objectives.
  • Identify areas for potential cost reduction or efficiency improvements without compromising quality or safety.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of estimates, bids, contracts, and correspondence.
  • Provide regular progress reports to senior management and clients, including adjustments or changes in scope.
  • Conduct site visits to assess conditions, take measurements, and verify project scope before finalizing estimates.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; degree in fire protection engineering, construction management, or related field preferred.
  • Several years of experience in fire sprinkler design, estimation, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of fire protection systems and construction processes.
  • Prior experience as a fire sprinkler estimator, project manager, or designer is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills to interpret blueprints and project specifications.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and tools (e.g., Building Connected, Procore, PlanSwift, Excel).
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes, fire codes, and regulations (e.g., NFPA 13, NFPA 25).
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification from a recognized professional organization, such as NICET, is an advantage.
  • Fire sprinkler design or inspection certifications may also be beneficial.
