About the position

The Fire Systems Maintenance Supervisor at Dartmouth College is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Fire Systems Maintenance Shop. This role includes planning, scheduling, and implementing maintenance tasks related to fire and life safety systems, as well as supervising full-time employees and subcontractors. The supervisor ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, manages budgets, and maintains effective communication with management and the college community.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and implement daily and special duties of the Fire Systems Maintenance Shop.
  • Supervise full-time employees and subcontractors for fire systems maintenance.
  • Establish safety, quality control, and productivity standards for all trades under supervision.
  • Assist in preparing specific and annual budgets for the maintenance shop.
  • Oversee equipment and supply inventory for the shop.
  • Communicate effectively with FO&M management and the college community.
  • Build and maintain staff morale and productivity.
  • Lead the assigned shop staff, fostering teamwork and collaboration.
  • Manage a diverse team of Fire Safety Maintenance Technicians.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for fire safety system failures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and standards.

Requirements

  • Associates degree plus 5+ years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical school graduate with knowledge of NFPA Life Safety Codes and fire safety systems.
  • Minimum of five years supervisory experience required.
  • Qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.

  • Extensive knowledge of skilled and semi-skilled trades related to fire systems.
  • Expert knowledge of fire alarm and life safety systems.
  • Experience in estimating, scheduling, and managing multi-trade projects.
  • Working knowledge of applicable safety codes and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with direct reports and subcontractors.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with standard business software.
