About The Position

The Firefighter Recruit classification is designed for individuals who are in a structured training period to learn the technical and specialized work functions associated with fire, rescue, and disaster emergency calls. The role involves protecting life and property, supporting fire safety, prevention, and equipment maintenance activities. Employees will serve an eighteen (18) month probation period during which they will develop the necessary skills and knowledge to perform effectively in this role.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be a US Citizen or possess resident status.
  • Must attain and maintain valid State of Georgia Firefighter I & II, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Operations, and CPR certifications within the first eighteen (18) months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces all County Fire codes, ordinances, and fire laws to protect life and property.
  • Participates in Fire and Emergency Medical Training Programs to develop and maintain competency in Fire Suppression and Prevention Procedures.
  • Studies metro area and County geography to learn the location of streets, hydrants, and physical features of property.
  • Responds to emergency calls involving fires, hazardous materials, and vehicle accidents.
  • Provides control of fire situations including suppression, extinguishment, and search and rescue of victims.
  • Assists with fire cause determination and recognizes evidence of arson.
  • Operates fire service tools and equipment including hoses, nozzles, and sprinkler systems.
  • Identifies dangerous building conditions and applies appropriate precautions.
  • Provides rehydration and first aid support during fire ground activities.
  • Performs various types of rescue operations as assigned.
  • Trains to inspect properties for fire hazards and violations.
  • Monitors and communicates effectively over radio channels.
  • Prepares, inspects, and maintains fire equipment and vehicles.
  • Establishes and maintains positive public relations and promotes fire safety.
  • Completes and prepares various forms, logs, and reports associated with daily responsibilities.
