About The Position

The Harrisonburg Fire Department (HFD) is actively recruiting interested individuals to participate in a combined testing and employment process for the position of Firefighter. No prior experience or training is required. A physical ability test and written examination will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025, with a required orientation session on Friday evening, January 17th. Additional details will be provided to applicants once their submission is reviewed by Human Resources and HFD. This testing process is exclusive to the City of Harrisonburg.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age by date of hire.
• High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

• Prior training and experience as a firefighter (career or volunteer).

Responsibilities

• Participate in a physical ability test and written examination.
• Attend a mandatory orientation session.
• Complete a brief oral interview with fire department personnel after testing.
• Complete required certifications and training as a condition of employment.
