Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency medical, fire, and hazardous materials calls.
• Participate in practice drills.
• Perform building inspections and maintenance of detection and suppression systems equipment.
• Use initiative in solving normal firefighting problems and consult with the supervisor on unusually difficult problems.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Must be registered for Selective Service if male and born after 12-31-59.
• Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical examination is required.
• Must pass a drug test.
• Must possess Firefighter 1 Certification, Maryland EMT-B certification, and Hazmat Operations Certification at the time of application.
• One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level, or a 4-year course of study in Fire Science or related fields, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in driving and operating fire apparatus and using various firefighting equipment.
