About the position

The First Generation Programs Graduate Assistant position is designed to support first-generation college students through various initiatives, outreach efforts, and event planning. The role involves maintaining electronic records, mentoring students, managing social media channels, and assisting with the planning and implementation of workshops and events aimed at enhancing the first-gen student experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining electronic records including files on Box and databases of first-gen students and alumni.
  • Ongoing outreach and relationship building with all first-generation students related to Cardinal First.
  • Assisting with planning and implementation of Cardinal First cohort workshops, including communications, RSVPs, food ordering, logistics, and attendance monitoring.
  • Mentoring first-gen students in assigned cohort(s) through one-on-one meetings each semester.
  • Assisting with selection and leadership development for Cardinal First Student Leadership Team.
  • Managing Cardinal First social media channels and implementing content strategy.
  • Assisting with all first-gen related initiatives including workshops, academic groups, and special initiatives.
  • Assisting with assessment and data collection.
  • Pricing, ordering, and distributing Cardinal First planner/calendars, t-shirts, and other materials.
  • Representing the Office of First-Gen programs at Admission Visit Days and campus presentations.
  • Assisting the First-gen Staff and other Graduate Assistant as needed.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned to improve the first-gen student experience.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage a diverse range of students and stakeholders.
  • Keen attention to detail in event planning, data management, and communications.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including scheduling and resource coordination.
  • Experience in planning and facilitating events focused on student engagement.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with first-generation students and faculty.
  • Strong work ethic with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Passionate about supporting first-generation college students through education and advocacy.
  • Problem-solving abilities to anticipate challenges and adapt to evolving needs.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms and digital communication tools.
