About the position

At USAA, we have an important mission: facilitating the financial security of millions of U.S. military members and their families. As a dedicated First Party Fraud Lead Analyst, you will serve as an individual contributor for the First Party Fraud team within Financial Crimes. This role requires leveraging expert business, analytical, and technical knowledge to lead discussions with cross-functional teams, understanding and collaborating on highly sophisticated business objectives, and influencing First Party Fraud solution strategies. You will be expected to be a subject matter expert in multiple areas, driving conversations around technical solutions to create more effective strategies, systems, processes, or resources that benefit the business needs. In this position, you will be responsible for developing and supervising the progress of strategic plans for opportunities while adjusting to rapid changes in the environment. You will effectively communicate and implement business strategies that align with the company's overall goals. Leading discussions within a single vertical, you will drive the fraud strategic plan that results in both short and long-term growth for the business. This includes leading large-scale implementations and projects that impact managed tools, improving, synchronizing, and integrating process controls and automation. You will monitor, understand, and adopt emerging technology that can affect the application of scientific methodologies and/or quantitative analytical approaches to problem resolutions. Your ability to succinctly deliver sophisticated analysis and findings will be crucial in conveying understanding, influencing senior executives, garnering support for recommendations, driving business decisions, and influencing business strategy. This role offers a flexible work environment, requiring in-office presence four days a week, with the possibility of remote work in the continental U.S. and occasional business travel.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage expert business, analytical, and technical knowledge to lead discussions with cross-functional teams.
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques to solve large-scale business problems.
  • Organize and oversee the development of requirements/resources necessary to meet established objectives.
  • Translate recommendations into communication materials for all levels of management.
  • Identify and gather relevant and quality data sources to address business objectives.
  • Monitor and adopt emerging technology affecting scientific methodologies and quantitative analytical approaches.
  • Deliver complex analysis/findings to influence senior executives and drive business decisions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in operationalizing recommendations.
  • Research and pursue industry-leading practices in data and analytics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative analytics field or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years of data & analytics experience or 6 years with 2 years of progressive functional business experience.
  • 3 years of direct and/or indirect management experience.
  • Expert skills in mathematical and statistical techniques for decision-making.
  • Expert knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, and SQL/SAS/BI tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous First-party fraud strategy experience.
  • Expertise with Model Risk Management and associated documentation.
  • Knowledge in at least one product area with experience building strategies to prevent fraud.
  • Experience developing fraud-related reporting and interpreting existing reports.
