About the position

As a dedicated First Party Fraud Analyst, Senior at USAA, you will play a crucial role as an individual contributor within the First Party Fraud team, which is part of the Financial Crimes division. Your primary responsibility will be to leverage your advanced understanding of the Financial Crimes space to contribute to the strategic business direction of the organization. You will take ownership of both small- and large-scale analyses and business strategies, employing innovative and quantitative analytical approaches to extract insights from data. This will involve a range of data preparation, modeling, and visualization techniques, including predictive analysis, pattern recognition, and machine learning. Key skills required for this role include association rule learning, cluster analysis, anomaly detection, and proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools such as PowerBI and Tableau, as well as programming languages like Python and SAS. In this position, you will be expected to understand the business environment and strategies related to First Party Fraud, allowing you to identify and recommend solutions that can influence the business and inspire change. You will advocate for both yourself and your teammates, encouraging the growth of direct and indirect peers in both technical and soft skills. Additionally, you will ensure that risks associated with business activities are optimally identified, measured, supervised, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures. The role requires you to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to understand complex business objectives and influence solution strategies. You will apply advanced analytical techniques to solve medium to large-scale business problems that significantly impact current and future business strategies. Your ability to translate recommendations into effective communication materials will be essential, as you will need to present findings to various levels of management. You will also be responsible for identifying and gathering relevant data sources, integrating disparate data, and applying appropriate data hygiene techniques. Thorough documentation of assumptions, methodologies, and validation processes will be necessary to facilitate peer reviews and compliance requirements. Staying informed on current data and analytics trends will be crucial, as will identifying opportunities for continued learning in the data and analytics space.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage advanced business, analytical, and technical knowledge to lead discussions with cross-functional teams.
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques to medium to large-scale business problems.
  • Translate recommendations into communication materials for management.
  • Incorporate visualization techniques to support analysis and ease understanding for non-technical audiences.
  • Identify and gather relevant data sources for analysis.
  • Integrate and transform disparate data sources, applying data hygiene techniques.
  • Document assumptions, methodologies, and validation processes for compliance.
  • Stay informed on current data and analytics trends and emerging technologies.
  • Deliver analysis findings succinctly to influence management and drive business decisions.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in operationalizing recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative analytics field or 4 years of related experience in statistics, mathematics, or quantitative analytics.
  • 6 years of data & analytics experience or a combination of 4 years of data & analytics experience and 2 years of progressive functional business experience.
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative analytics field with 4 years of experience in data/analytics or functional business experience.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in mathematical and statistical techniques for decision-making.
  • Advanced knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, and SQL/SAS/BI tools.
  • Experience with new and emerging data sets and data wrangling techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous first-party fraud strategy experience.
  • Expertise with Model Risk Management and associated documentation.
  • Knowledge in at least one product area with experience building strategies to prevent fraud.
  • Experience developing fraud-related reporting and interpreting existing reports.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a basic understanding of statistics.
  • US military experience through service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
