The Fish and Wildlife Biologist position at the Department of the Interior involves working on habitat restoration projects in Dillon, MT. Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of habitat restoration projects including landowner contacts and feasibility determinations.
  • Plan and design habitat restoration projects, securing necessary permits and funding.
  • Develop annual and long-range goals, objectives, plans, and budgets for watersheds and ecosystem priorities.
  • Prepare management plans to ensure the preservation and enhancement of fish and wildlife habitats.
  • Provide technical and habitat restoration assistance to local, state, and federal cooperators.
  • Promote and maintain cooperative relationships with partners, including government agencies and local community groups.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or National status is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a related discipline is required.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service is required.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with private landowners and agencies is necessary.
  • Knowledge of scientific, biological, and ecological theories and principles is essential.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in grant writing and administration.
  • Familiarity with conservation messaging and communication strategies.
  • Ability to coordinate efforts among multiple personnel involved in habitat conservation.
