About the position

The Fish and Wildlife Technician 2 position involves overseeing various tasks related to wildlife and ecosystem health management. The role includes supervising junior technicians, collecting and analyzing wildlife specimens, coordinating data collection, and engaging with the public and various stakeholders. The technician will work under the supervision of regional Bureau staff and will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations while promoting public awareness of wildlife programs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise one or more Fish and Wildlife Technician 1s.
  • Collect wildlife and flora specimens for identification, abundance, size, and quality.
  • Coordinate and summarize data collected from various sample collections and surveys.
  • Supervise the construction and repair of habitat structures.
  • Respond to nuisance wildlife complaints.
  • Coordinate and supervise deer and waterfowl check stations.
  • Assist in the preparation of media brochures.
  • Schedule, develop, and display public presentations.
  • Conduct field investigations to determine compliance with conditions of environmental permits.
  • Coordinate deed and tax map reviews related to wetlands.
  • Communicate with division and agency personnel, the public, and special interest groups.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; or a related field.
  • One year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to meet transportation needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in public presentations and community engagement.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance.
