About the position

As a Fish and Wildlife Technician Senior (Senior Fish Screening Technician), at the Rogue Watershed Screen Shop in Central Point, Oregon, you will coordinate and implement the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of Fish Screens and Fish Passage structures in Southern Oregon. These duties include fabricating and constructing fish screening systems and fish passage devices involving concrete forms, and other associated parts and materials for installation at water diversions. You will work with the manager on determining project assignments and provide technical direction and guidance for water users and private contractors who choose to design, construct, install, operate and maintain their own screening systems and passage devices at water diversions located in Southern Oregon. Additionally, you will negotiate access and use agreements with water users and landowners for fish screen and passage installations.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and construct fish screening systems and fish passage devices involving concrete forms and other associated parts and materials for installation at water diversions.
  • Work with the manager on determining project assignments.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance for water users and private contractors.
  • Negotiate access and use agreements with water users and landowners for fish screen and passage installations.

Requirements

  • Two years and six months of fisheries or wildlife experience; AND an Associate's degree in Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture or Aquarium Science, Wildlife Technology, or Agriculture; OR Eighteen months of fisheries experience, care of livestock, agricultural research and experimentation, monitoring game or wildlife, or farming.
  • OR a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Wildlife Science, or a closely-related Bachelor's degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework AND one year of fisheries or wildlife experience.
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required within six months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hand and power tools.
  • Maintenance and construction skills, particularly related to welding, metal and concrete work.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment (excavator/track hoe, forklift and backhoe).
  • Experience writing progress or technical reports.
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Basic knowledge of salmon, steelhead and coastal cutthroat trout biology, life history and habitat requirements.
  • Experience with habitat assessment and restoration techniques.
