About The Position

The Fisheries Research team is looking for three Fisheries Technicians to support fisheries research projects in the Panhandle and Clearwater regions, specifically on Dworshak Reservoir and Lake Pend Oreille. The positions are full-time, with one benefitted position lasting 8 months and two non-benefitted positions available. The work involves various tasks related to fish sampling and data collection, often in challenging weather conditions and irregular hours.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to work long hours in various weather conditions
  • Ability to hike steep and/or slippery terrain
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 60 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Sampling kokanee at night time using hydroacoustics and trawling gear
  • Collecting limnological samples
  • Sampling and tagging Smallmouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, and Bull Trout
  • Processing biological samples in a laboratory setting
  • Entering, organizing, and QA/QC of biological data
  • Conducting spawning surveys for kokanee and Bull Trout
  • Assisting with gill-netting and boat electrofishing efforts
  • Preparing aging structures for age and growth analyses
