About the position

The Fitness Center Worker / Building Supervisor at Northeastern University is responsible for overseeing the fitness center and associated facilities, ensuring safety and compliance with protocols. This role involves direct interaction with users, maintaining cleanliness, and responding to emergencies, all while providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision to all users of the fitness center, gymnasium, activity rooms, tennis courts, and soccer field.
  • Ensure that all safety and emergency protocols are followed.
  • Arrive to work on time, wearing appropriate attire to perform duties.
  • Communicate absences in advance and take initiative to find coverage.
  • Follow procedures for opening and closing the facilities.
  • Greet students/staff and faculty as they enter and exit the facility; assist them with any questions or concerns as they check in.
  • Ensure that patrons follow policies and redirect, as needed.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor during scheduled shift.
  • Resolve concerns and escalate to supervisor, as needed.
  • Answer phones in a friendly manner and assist callers with their inquiries.
  • Provide regular, consistent cleaning and sanitizing of all exercise equipment.
  • Perform laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping; follow specific cleaning protocols.
  • Frequently perform a comprehensive walk through of all facility areas; quickly fix or report any safety/policy issues and address cleanliness concerns.
  • Take initiative to ensure safety in the facility; promptly report maintenance and facility concerns.
  • Anticipate, recognize, and react to all emergencies, and provide necessary reporting to direct supervisor.
  • Follow all policies and procedures set forth in the staff handbook.
  • Perform other admin/clerical duties as assigned by Campus Recreation staff members.

Requirements

  • 6-12 months of experience in a customer service environment is preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Willing to become CPR/AED Certified (current certification preferred but will be provided).
  • Basic computer proficiency.
