About the position

In this position as a Fitness Specialist, you will utilize a trifecta approach to providing fitness coaching and instruction. You will be required to perform 1 - 2 shifts as a Fitness Concierge. As the welcoming, first-impression of Strata Fit, the Fitness Specialist is critical to ensuring that each athlete has a positive, enjoyable, rewarding, and memorable workout experience - with every interaction, every session, and every day. The Fitness Specialist greets and directs athletes, guests, members, and team members as they enter the facilities and provides exceptional service and assistance with inquiries about fitness operations, gym policies, personal training and fitness coaching opportunities, workout reservations, group fitness class schedules, and various key administrative functions, including phone and email management, facility and equipment cleanliness, and retail sales. Applicants will also be responsible for teaching 1 - 4 group exercise classes. Providing group fitness instruction in an enjoyable atmosphere, while monitoring and educating our athletes on fitness and safety. Lastly, applicants will be responsible for filling out their remaining schedule recruiting and coaching personal training clients. Assessing bodily strengths and weaknesses while creating and implementing customized workout plans.

Responsibilities

  • Operate efficiently and effectively all functions of the Fitness Center, equipment, and workouts.
  • Create up-to-date athlete records and workout preferences in database management systems.
  • Maintain constant sanitation, cleanliness, and tidiness of gym facilities, locker rooms, and lobby, including retail.
  • Maintain full stock of equipment, towels, supplies, and athlete amenities.
  • Manage workout reservations appointments, including recurring and cancelling, and assistance with bookings.
  • Perform check-in, check-out, and payment transaction processes in accordance with policies.
  • Execute Guest Pass procedures for affiliates utilizing the facilities and collaborate with Membership.
  • Maintain product knowledge for retail, including brands, costs, promos, specials, and contacts, and know fitness equipment, vendor brands, specifications, and benefits for use.
  • Deliver consistent friendly and professional phone and email etiquette.
  • Teaches scheduled group exercise classes, beginning on time, provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool-down.
  • Instructs athletes on effective workout methods, explains proper techniques; demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen muscles.
  • Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and cues for each class.
  • Assume the responsibility of personally training athletes who are interested in increasing the fitness levels, losing weight, and entering competitions.
  • Provides athletes with safe, reasonable exercises that they can perform in the gym as well as at home.
  • Communicate to members and guests about their goals and introduce them to our personal training packages.
  • Deliver 'I Am Proud' service standards and department-specific signature touch points.
  • Establish cross-departmental channels of communication among teammates that are consistent and complete.

Requirements

  • Must be able to think critically and creatively.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
  • Financial knowledge, including basic math, money handling, and pricing.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer (technology) skills - including Excel.
  • Interpersonal skills and record keeping.
  • Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.
  • High School Diploma is required and some college preferred.
  • Background experience and education in physical education, exercise science, sports medicine, kinesiology, biology, or sport management is preferred.
  • Previous gym, fitness, wellness, or personal trainer (or relevant role) experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Nationally recognized Personal Training certification.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Group Exercise certification (ACE, AFAA) or equivalent.
  • Additional specialty/certifications preferred.
