About the position

As a Fixed Income Product Controller at Mizuho, you will play a crucial role in the accounting and financial reporting for the fixed income trading desks, which encompass a variety of products including Interest Rate Products, Securitized Products, Credit Products, Derivatives, and Municipal Market Products. Your primary responsibility will be to monitor transactions and profit and loss (P&L) while acting as a key control function within the organization. This position requires a high level of interaction with the trading desks on a daily basis, ensuring that all financial activities are accurately reported and analyzed. In addition to daily P&L production and analysis, you will oversee month-end general ledger closes and balance sheet substantiation. You will also be responsible for reviewing Independent Price Verification (IPV) results in collaboration with the Valuation team, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of Volcker reporting metrics, and addressing ad hoc requests from the trading desk. Your role will involve participation in various finance initiatives and assessing new trades for appropriate valuation, accounting treatment, and disclosure in financial statements. You will work closely with financial control teams to prepare key external reports, including disclosures and Volcker metrics reporting, which will require you to provide commentary for regulatory submissions. This position demands a strong attention to detail, the ability to lead projects, and effective communication skills to articulate ideas clearly to various stakeholders within the firm.

Responsibilities

• Daily, monthly and quarterly P&L production and analysis, including risk-based attribution.
• Daily interaction with the trading desks.
• Liaison with various areas within the firm (e.g. Operations, Technology, Middle Office and Market Risk).
• Process reengineering to improve efficiencies.
• Oversee Month-end General Ledger closes.
• Oversee Balance sheet substantiation.
• Review IPV results with Valuation team.
• Ensure the completeness and accuracy of Volcker reporting metrics.
• Handle ad hoc requests from the desk.
• Participate in Finance initiatives.
• Assess new trades for appropriate valuation, accounting treatment, and disclosure in the financial statements.
• Work with financial control in preparation of key external reports such as disclosures.
• Prepare Volcker metrics reporting along with commentary for regulatory submissions.

Requirements

• Fixed Income experience across all products.
• 5+ years of product control experience.
• Previous management experience.
• High attention to detail.
• Capable of running with projects and leading team.
• Fast learner and team player.
• Strong analytic and problem solving skills.
• Highly proficient in Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to clearly articulate ideas.
• Accounting or Finance degree required.

Nice-to-haves

• CPA or CFA preferred, but not required.
