About the position

The Fixed Income Rates Research Analyst at MFS is responsible for conducting in-depth research on US and Canadian sovereign and agency debt issuers and currencies. The role involves developing investment recommendations for fixed income portfolios, contributing to discussions on interest rates and foreign exchange strategies, and acting as an expert on UST/Canadian markets. The analyst will utilize various research sources and frameworks to analyze macroeconomic data and communicate investment insights effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research within the Developed Market Strategy Team to develop investment recommendations in sovereign and agency bonds, inflation markets, and FX.
  • Contribute to firm-wide discussions regarding interest rates and foreign exchange strategy.
  • Develop internal models/frameworks and utilize external research sources to provide insights on sovereign and agency bonds, derivatives, yield curves, and foreign exchange.
  • Structure, develop, and communicate investment recommendations, assigning ratings (buy/hold/sell) to sovereign issuers and their bonds.
  • Analyze macroeconomic data related to monetary policy, inflation, and labor markets.
  • Attend conferences and meet external experts to gather investment ideas and develop themes.
  • Act as the in-house expert on UST/Canadian markets.
  • Perform additional duties as directed.

Requirements

  • PhD level or Masters level in Economics preferred; CFA preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience, including US sovereign issuer/Fed analysis and ideally currency/inflation strategy.
  • Good working knowledge of North American interest rates markets, international financial markets, bonds, interest rate derivatives, and currencies.
  • Experience with sovereign debt markets, including bonds and derivatives, and capital structure analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and think critically in formulating and assessing investment recommendations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for teamwork and client interactions.
