About the position

The Flag Football Ratio Coach at Federal Way Public Schools is responsible for assisting in the development and growth of high school student athletes. This role emphasizes fundamental skills instruction, academic and athletic excellence, leadership development, and fostering positive social relationships among students. The coach will work closely with the head coach to implement training programs, promote the sport within the community, and ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach in developing student athletes' skills and leadership qualities.
  • Stay updated on sport-specific techniques and knowledge through literature and workshops.
  • Study and understand the rules and regulations of the sport and relevant associations.
  • Promote the sport within the school and community, reporting scores and contest information promptly.
  • Attend daily practices and contests, ensuring consistent participation and communication with the head coach.
  • Model safety training and have a working knowledge of basic athletic training skills.
  • Exhibit professionalism and good judgment in coaching behaviors and interactions with students.
  • Promote sportsmanship and ethical behavior at all times, especially during challenges or losses.
  • Supervise participants from arrival until departure, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Ensure team members complete eligibility processes before participation in practices or contests.
  • Report any injuries or accidents promptly and follow up with necessary documentation.
  • Attend required meetings and assist in planning post-season gatherings for participants and families.
  • Manage program equipment and supplies responsibly, ensuring safety and proper care.
  • Collaborate with the head coach on program goals and consistent skill presentation across levels.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior sport-specific playing and/or coaching experience in secondary or post-secondary athletics or related club coaching experience.
  • Proven training and experience in presenting drills and safety factors.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two or more years of paid high school and/or post-secondary sport-specific coaching experience.
  • Completion of the National Federation Coaching Fundamentals Course.
