About the position

The Fleet Body Repair Technician is responsible for repairing body and glass damage on various City vehicles, including buses and streetcars. This role requires a combination of technical skills and the ability to work under general supervision, ensuring that all repairs meet established standards and safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Repair body and glass damage on buses, streetcars, and other City vehicles and equipment.
  • Inspect vehicle bodies and fenders for dents and breaks, and straighten bodies, grills, hoods, and door panels.
  • Check frames and doors for alignment, and remove and replace windows, windshields, and door glass.
  • Identify parts, supplies, and materials needed for repairs.
  • Repair or fabricate parts made of various plastics or rubber, such as bumpers or interior panels.
  • Repair, fabricate, or refinish parts made of wood.
  • Sand, apply primer, seal, and paint exterior and interior of fleet units or areas repaired.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with established repair and maintenance standards.
  • Observe safe work practices at all times.
  • Interact with supervisors, suppliers, and coworkers to provide accurate information and ensure continuity of operations.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of body repair experience.
  • Valid Class 'C' Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
  • Must furnish own tools of the trade.
