About the position

The Fleet Operational Management Trainee (FOMT) program at Waste Management is a 12-month training course designed to prepare individuals for fleet manager roles. Participants will gain hands-on experience in managing fleet operations, focusing on profitability, cost control, and safety standards. The program includes on-the-job training and requires candidates to be willing to relocate within an assigned geographic area upon completion.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete the FOMT curriculum and all required training items through the WM Learning Management System.
  • Develop the skills necessary to become a Fleet Manager.
  • Complete assigned computer-based training and participate in mandatory group training sessions.
  • Gain a working knowledge of WM's fleet and general business applications.
  • Learn about heavy equipment functionality and maintenance care, including operation and in-shop maintenance.
  • Effectively manage site personnel through experiential efforts and training.
  • Understand financial, accounting, and forecasting processes and systems.
  • Commit to the WM Safety Program and collaborate with safety teams to foster a safety-conscious culture.
  • Utilize fleet maintenance software for paperwork related to vehicle repairs, parts usage, and repair times.
  • Participate in worksite meetings, huddles, and area mentor programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects and interim management assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or a High School Diploma/GED with three years of relevant work experience.
  • Four years of supervisory/leadership experience in operations.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Proven problem-solving ability and successful conflict resolution skills.
  • Mechanical experience or Technical Drive.
  • Strong analytical skills.
