About the position

The Operations Manager at Ryder is responsible for managing operations and personnel at locations with a significant number of truck units. This role involves direct involvement in achieving business objectives, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining compliance with company processes. The Ops Manager will oversee various teams, including Operations Supervisors and Technicians, and will be accountable for performance metrics, financial management, and quality assurance. This position also serves as a developmental role for those aspiring to advance to Senior Operations Manager, promoting career growth within the company.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operations and personnel for locations with approximately 130-370 truck units.
  • Ensure business objectives and labor requirements are met through direct involvement and limited delegation.
  • Oversee execution of work analysis, vehicle planning, scheduling, and productivity tracking.
  • Manage labor planning, including evaluating incoming work and allocating resources effectively.
  • Directly responsible for customer relationship management, issue resolution, and customer satisfaction.
  • Implement cost control measures related to maintenance operations budget and location P&L statement.
  • Ensure compliance with company processes, Standard Operating Procedures, and Standard Repair Practices.
  • Lead performance management and development of all assigned personnel.
  • Optimize vehicle maintenance cycle time and ensure timely service delivery to customers.
  • Maintain quality inspections of PM & repairs and lead root cause analysis for breakdowns.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED required; Associate's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in an operations environment or demonstrated success in a Ryder role required.
  • One to two years of supervisory experience required.
  • Demonstrated success in performance managing teams and developing the workforce.
  • Strong understanding of labor, financial operating, quality, safety, and asset processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and Microsoft Office environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate level preferred.
  • Experience with Fleet Management Software preferred.
  • Maintenance and technical experience in a shop environment preferred.
