About the position

This position typically provides day to day operation of the maintenance shop, including scheduling equipment repair, ordering parts and assigning work; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens. The role involves supervising the daily operations of the department, coordinating daily work schedules for subordinate employees, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The position requires performing preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, trucks, construction equipment, and generators. Additionally, the role includes managing inventory, assisting with budget processes, and ensuring compliance with environmental management policies.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the daily operations of the department.
  • Coordinates daily work schedules for subordinate employees.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on automobiles, trucks, and various equipment.
  • Repairs specialized mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Determines cost-effective repair options.
  • Utilizes contract repairs to address personnel and tooling shortfalls.
  • Removes and installs gas and diesel engines.
  • Performs minor structural repairs using welding equipment.
  • Maintains material and tool inventory.
  • Uses test equipment to diagnose and repair engines and systems.
  • Assists with budget recommendations.
  • Reviews and processes p-card statements.
  • Reconciles expenditures.
  • Maintains records for preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Reports observed discharges of pollutants.
  • Coordinates mechanics' activities to ensure compliance with EMS.
  • Ensures mechanics understand their responsibilities regarding EMS.
  • Assists Fleet Manager with budgets and vehicle specifications.
  • Researches and gathers quotes for replacement vehicles/equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven (7) years of experience in the automotive, truck or equipment maintenance field.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Nice-to-haves

  • Emergency Vehicle Technician Certifications (Ambulance Technician and/or Law Enforcement Vehicle Technician) within one (1) year of employment.
  • ASE certification(s) or OEM Certifications preferred.
