About the position

The Fleet Mechanic II position at Elon University involves performing maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including automotive and transit fleet vehicles. The role requires a combination of technical skills and the ability to work under supervision, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the university's fleet operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform major mechanical repairs such as transmission and engine rebuilds on university vehicles and equipment under general supervision.
  • Conduct complete brake jobs on cars and medium duty trucks.
  • Perform minor mechanical repairs on small engines and equipment, including water pumps, fuel pumps, and alternators.
  • Repair, mount, balance, and install tires as part of scheduled maintenance.
  • Complete preventative maintenance checks and repairs on vehicles.
  • Wash vehicles and manage the pick-up and delivery of vehicles and parts.
  • Maintain a safe work environment through shop housekeeping duties.
  • Install and remove auxiliary equipment such as police radios in university police vehicles.
  • Make welding repairs and fabricate small metal projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 years of experience in automotive repair.
  • Associate degree or vocational/technical school degree in Automotive Technology is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with diesel and propane powered vehicles.
  • Familiarity with automotive repair tools and equipment.
