About the position

Holcim US, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Fleet Mechanic to support operations at the Newington plant in Lorton, Virginia. This position will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of fixed mechanical equipment. Responsible for keeping the equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; performing repairs when needed. The ideal mechanic will have a fleet maintenance vehicle (already owned) and will assist as needed within the Ready MiX network throughout the Virginia area.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general overhaul and repair work on gasoline, diesel and propane powered engines such as automobiles, trucks and other automotive and mechanical equipment
  • Inspect, adjust and replace necessary units and parts including cooling, fuel and exhaust components.
  • Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability.
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Perform preventive maintenance work on vehicles, including lubrication and oil change
  • Repair cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems; tune engines using standard testing equipment.
  • Inspect, adjust, and replace necessary units and related parts including valves, hoses, belts and alternators
  • May fabricate and modify parts and equipment.
  • Repair engine failures, mechanical and electrical system malfunctions, body repair and replacing parts and components.
  • Service machinery and mechanical equipment by completing repairs on engines, hydraulics systems, mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Keep an accurate log of all work performed.
  • Maintain and clean all garage equipment and tools to ensure equipment is kept in usable condition at all times.
  • Adhere to company work safety policies

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years experience performing the functions listed above in a construction, building materials, manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Mechanical skills, physical strength, practical skills, problem solving orientation, and customer service abilities.
  • Proficient in hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic systems
  • Ability to prepare work estimates and quotes
  • Experience conducting routine services and vehicle maintenance
  • Excellent oral communication skills with close attention to detail
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions without limitations.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid Driving License
  • Good Driving Record
