About the position

The Fleet Technician 3 - CDL position at Gordon Food Service involves repairing and maintaining heavy tractors, trailers, refrigeration units, and converter dolly units. This role is designed for technicians at various skill levels, from apprentice to master, with a focus on developing skills in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair. The position requires a commitment to safety and efficiency in a full-time, day shift environment.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains heavy tractor, trailer, refrigeration units, and converter dolly units.
  • Inspects, maintains, and repairs diesel engines, gas engines, and all systems/components related to heavy-duty tractors and trailers.
  • Performs and interprets diagnostic testing to determine malfunctions on all equipment types.
  • Conducts daily inspections and preventative maintenance of equipment, addressing driver's write-ups for necessary repairs.
  • Performs general cutting and welding as necessary.
  • Makes road calls to repair equipment as needed.
  • Assists in the repair of shop equipment including garage doors and power tools.
  • Determines if rolling stock is safe to operate or needs servicing.
  • Completes all reporting accurately and in a timely manner, communicating status of current assignments to management.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Operates all equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Drives vehicles and moves equipment in, out, and around the shop.
  • Delivers and/or picks up technicians at vendors when equipment needs additional service.
  • May be required to drive a company vehicle to another garage or to meet another fleet technician for parts.
  • Follows all safety protocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalency certificate (GED).
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for apprentice level.
  • Completion of various training certifications for skilled level, including Holland Fifth Wheel Training, Stemco Wheel End Training, Michelin Tire Training, and 608/609 A/C Certification.
  • Ability to perform GFS Preventative Maintenance (PM) inspection and diagnose and repair components such as starters, alternators, and batteries.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Fleet Focus software.
  • Completion of Volvo Online Training (modules C & D).
  • Ability to weld steel and diagnose and repair brake systems.
