About the position

The Fleming Scholar Summer Research Internship at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) offers high school seniors and college students the opportunity to engage in biomedical research for 8 weeks during the summer. Scholars work on individual projects under the supervision of senior scientific staff, contributing to real-life scientific inquiries that can impact human health. The program culminates in formal presentations and the writing of a scientific paper summarizing their research findings.

Responsibilities

  • Work for 8 weeks in state-of-the-art biomedical research laboratories on individual projects.
  • Be supervised by senior members of OMRF's scientific staff.
  • Attend weekly seminars and occasional social events as a group.
  • Give formal scientific seminars outlining the findings of their projects on the final day of the program.
  • Write a scientific paper summarizing their summer project.

Requirements

  • Must be an Oklahoma resident at the time of high school graduation.
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • Classified as a high school senior or college freshman, sophomore, or junior at the time of application.
  • A United States citizen, permanent resident, or have unrestricted employment authorization.
  • Willing and able to commit to the program's entire eight-week time frame.
