We do not require special schooling or a college degree for this job and you will be fully trained by United. As a flight attendant, you will enjoy travel privileges that allow you to fly around the world on United and bring your loved ones along. You will receive paid time off for sick leave and vacation. The starting hourly flight pay is $28.88/hour, with the potential to reach a top base scale of $67.11/hour based on seniority, with additional compensation for language skills, lead positions, and international trips. To start your career, you will undergo a comprehensive 6.5-week training program in Houston, TX, where you will learn United's safety and customer service standards. Upon successful completion of this training, you will be welcomed aboard as a full-time employee and assigned to one of our seven hubs or other flight attendant base locations. United provides a $140/week per diem, along with accommodations, breakfast, and lunch during training. As a flight attendant, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest levels of safety, demonstrating a “People-First” demeanor, and engaging directly with customers through outstanding interpersonal skills. Flexibility is key, as you will be available for global assignments 24/7, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Dependability and timeliness are critical to success in this role, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You will have the opportunity to turn dreams into reality by traveling the world, exploring new cultures, and crafting memorable experiences for every customer, every flight, every day.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest levels of safety during flights.
  • Engage with customers through outstanding interpersonal skills and good judgment.
  • Resolve issues with understanding, compassion, and grace.
  • Influence customer loyalty through excellent service.
  • Represent United Airlines with pride and distinction.
  • Fulfill reserve assignments on short notice and be away from your base for days at a time.
  • Serve and/or sell food and beverages in a professional manner.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED; 2 or more years of college preferred.
  • At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry.
  • Ability to speak in a clear, concise, and organized manner, loudly enough to be heard in an emergency.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in a second language is highly desirable.
  • Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
  • Ability to read and speak English and Cantonese fluently.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in high-stress situations such as aircraft evacuation and medical emergencies.
  • Professional appearance and excellent grooming standards.
  • Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices for required tasks.
  • Must possess a valid passport with at least 18 months of validity remaining prior to expiration.
  • Ability to travel to and from all countries United serves without restrictions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull beverage carts.
  • Ability to reach vertically at least 82 inches without shoes.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule in support of United's 24/7 operation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable.
  • Experience in the aviation industry is a plus.
