About the position

The Flight Controls Engineer Production Programs at General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. is responsible for developing and improving flight control systems for remotely piloted aircraft. This role involves working on control law design, flight-critical software production, and all phases of aircraft development, including requirements development, design, software integration, and flight testing. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to ensure compliance with system requirements and enhance aircraft performance while addressing any flight control anomalies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop flight control and algorithm improvements based on engineering design principles.
  • Utilize methodologies including classical controls, linear and non-linear modeling, air vehicle and mission simulation, and flight data analysis.
  • Ensure designs comply with system requirements and follow industry best practices.
  • Assess flying qualities and characterize aircraft performance changes.
  • Generate aircraft models in MATLAB and Simulink for simulation-based analysis.
  • Derive flight control requirements based on desired system capability and customer feedback.
  • Collaborate with teams to integrate flight control algorithms into aircraft software and plan testing activities.
  • Troubleshoot flight control anomalies via flight data analysis and simulation.
  • Occasional travel to flight test facilities to support ground and flight test activities.
  • Potential to lead a team of peers in accomplishing program objectives.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Nine or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, seven or more years with a master's degree, or four or more years with a PhD.
  • Demonstrates extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles.
  • Possesses experience in project leadership and the ability to coordinate workloads.
  • Exhibits strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
