About the position
The Flight Modeling and Simulation MS/PhD Summer Internship at STR offers graduate students the opportunity to work on developing advanced modeling and simulation environments for defense applications. Interns will collaborate with experienced researchers to enhance the survivability and capability of US air and space assets through innovative simulation algorithms and data analytics. This role emphasizes hands-on experience in a supportive environment, contributing to real-world solutions that bolster national security.
Responsibilities
- Adapt, extend, and optimize innovative modeling and simulation algorithms for flight simulations.
- Collaborate with STR research engineers and academic researchers to develop practical modeling and simulation solutions.
- Evaluate and optimize simulation performance on relevant data sets.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Master's or PhD in applied physics, computer science, or related fields.
- Experience with physics-based modeling and/or data analytics is preferred.
- Object-oriented programming skills in C++, Qt, or MATLAB.
- Familiarity with source code management (git) and software development tools including continuous build, unit testing frameworks, and static code analysis.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in defense applications or related fields.
- Familiarity with simulation performance evaluation techniques.
