About the position

The Flight Systems Ops Engineer III - Cryogenics & Propulsion at Blue Origin plays a crucial role in supporting the development and operations of the New Glenn launch vehicle. This position involves overseeing the processing of systems from receipt at the launch site through to launch and landing, ensuring the safety and efficiency of operations. The engineer will work collaboratively with various teams to develop operational requirements, author detailed procedures, and manage a team of technicians and engineers. The role also includes developing ground software requirements and operating systems on launch day, contributing to the mission of safe human spaceflight.

Responsibilities

  • Process systems from receipt of New Glenn stages at the launch site through launch and landing.
  • Develop operational requirements and advocate for design-for-operations.
  • Author detailed procedures and help develop test equipment for integrated flight systems testing.
  • Manage a team of technicians and engineers while ensuring safety during operations.
  • Develop ground software requirements and write sequencer code for launch operations.
  • Create controller panels and earn certification as a launch controller.
  • Determine and correct anomaly causes during time-critical operations.
  • Perform data reviews and incorporate process improvements post-flight.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. Degree in Engineering, Science, or Math.
  • Minimum 6+ years of demonstrated technical expertise in cryogenic, propellant handling, or engine systems.
  • Strong operations planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective technical communications capabilities.
  • Ability to support occasional off shift work schedules.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of propellant loading and transfer processes.
  • Recent experience with launch vehicle integration and launch operations.
  • Ability to perform fluid flow estimate calculations.
  • Control room or operations experience in a real-time, intense environment.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), or simulations testing.
  • Experience writing technical procedures and non-conformance documentation.
  • Experience leading test teams as a Test Conductor or engineering lead.
  • Knowledgeable in Qt/QML, Simulink, MATLAB, Python, or Git.
