About the position

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Patuxent River, Maryland is seeking an Aeronautical Engineer Stf to lead the Flying Qualities team. In this role, you will support flight test activities at Patuxent River Naval Air Station on the F-35B and F-35C aircraft as part of the Air Vehicle (AV) Department. The AV flight science disciplines are responsible for verification and expansion of capabilities in developmental and operational test. In this role, you will be tasked with technical development and oversight of an integrated contractor and government discipline engineer team. The FQ Team Lead is expected to maintain currency for real-time control room monitoring and support as needed. The FQ Team Lead will assist with development and ensure adherence to processes, plans, and procedures necessary to provide timely, accurate, and focused engineering support. The applicant will maintain technical cognizance over their team while building effective relationships and ensuring appropriate coordination with equivalent LM and USG (JPO and NAVAIR) personnel. As part of the FQ team, the applicant will lead monitor test planning, preparing test predictions, supporting test flight briefings/debriefings, providing real time control room monitoring during test flights, requesting/analyzing post-flight data, post-test reporting, and supporting anomaly resolution. The successful candidate will have an interest in test engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Flying Qualities team for F-35B and F-35C aircraft.

Requirements

  • Experience as real-time discipline monitor for aircraft Flying Qualities or Performance flight test.
  • Formal test planning and reporting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with F-35 FQ and Performance flight test and analysis.
  • Project experience planning, executing, and analyzing aerial platform flight test results.
  • Mentoring experience.
  • Computer programming experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and MS Windows operating system.
