About the position

The Flight Test Engineer will provide comprehensive engineering support for the USAF Medium Altitude Unmanned Aircraft Systems (MAUAS) Division, focusing on all aspects of flight testing including planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting. This role requires on-site work at various government and commercial facilities in Poway, California, and involves collaboration with multiple stakeholders to ensure successful test operations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a flight test engineer for developmental test efforts.
  • Assist the Government in performing all facets of flight testing, from initial planning through execution and data analysis.
  • Provide advisory, review, or draft documentation for test plans and safety packages.
  • Attend test planning working groups and test interface meetings.
  • Interface with various test organizations to support test and safety plan approvals.
  • Communicate program office priorities and manage daily scheduling issues.
  • Review and identify potential issues relating to modification packages for air vehicles and support equipment.
  • Facilitate the scheduling of unique test resources and support long-term flight test scheduling.
  • Review proposals for validity and identify discrepancies relating to flight test requirements.
  • Provide test advice, recommend priorities, and perform resource planning.
  • Plan/execute system configurations and troubleshoot those configurations.
  • Assess and evaluate both subjective and objective data acquired through test execution.
  • Develop briefings and reports to update program leadership on progress.
  • Support UAS incidents requiring Safety and Accident Investigations.
  • Function as the Program Office and Staff Level Support interface for specified projects.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements.
  • BA/BS degree with 12 years of aviation test engineering experience, 5 of which must be in the DoD, or MA/MS with 12 years of experience in aviation test engineering, 5 of which must be in the DoD.
  • A fully adjudicated DoD Top Secret, Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance is required on the First Day of employment.
  • Advanced knowledge and recognized ability as an aviation test engineering expert.
  • Ability to oversee the efforts of junior and journeyman personnel in aviation test engineering.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of aviation test operations and associated standards, procedures, and practices.
  • Proven ability to perform logistics and work independently in aviation test engineering.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot various situations.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work within specified deadlines.
  • Clear ownership of issues and pursuit of resolutions through to completion.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
