About the position

The Flight Test Instrumentation System Design Engineer at Lockheed Martin plays a crucial role in the development and operations of the Joint Strike Fighter Flight Test program. This position involves working as an Instrumentation Operations Engineer (IOE) to support the procurement of Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) Group A hardware and vendor coordination. The engineer will be responsible for developing instrumentation requirements, schedules, and detailed system designs for data acquisition systems, ensuring a test-ready instrumentation system during flight tests. The role requires independent problem-solving and collaboration across various engineering and logistics teams.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the development and operations of the Joint Strike Fighter Flight Test program.
  • Support the procurement of FTI Group A hardware and vendor coordination.
  • Develop instrumentation requirements and schedules.
  • Resolve equipment and sensor selection problems.
  • Design detailed systems for instrumentation data acquisition.
  • Develop system software/programming for operation and data collection.
  • Support lab checkouts to resolve instrumentation data acquisition anomalies.
  • Ensure a test-ready instrumentation system during daily flight test operations.
  • Interact with flight test engineers and other disciplines for scheduling and troubleshooting during flight tests.
  • Support initial installations and functional operations on the production line and flight line.

Requirements

  • Operational experience with instrumentation systems.
  • Experience with digital data acquisition systems.
  • Familiarity with IRIG Standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) theory.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of JSF Aircraft/Program.
  • Experience with electrical design (CATIA V4 & V5).
  • Knowledge of FTI Group A hardware.
  • Leadership skills.
