About the position

The Medical Assistant 2 serves as the first point of contact for patient care, responsible for both administrative duties and direct patient care. This role involves performing clinical tasks such as obtaining vital signs, administering medications and vaccines, conducting phlebotomy, and maintaining examination rooms. The Medical Assistant collaborates closely with healthcare providers and operates within defined parameters to ensure quality patient care while having some discretion in prioritizing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical duties including discussing symptoms and obtaining vital signs.
  • Administer medications and vaccines as permitted by certification.
  • Conduct phlebotomy and collect specimens for testing.
  • Perform diagnostic screening tests and sterilize/clean equipment.
  • Maintain examination rooms and document patient information in electronic medical records.
  • Collaborate with Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to deliver patient care.
  • Interpret area/department policies to complete assignments effectively.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program or 5+ years of relevant experience with provider approval.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR Certification is required.
  • Ability to pass TB screening as this role is patient-facing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant certification (specific states require certification).
  • Experience in phlebotomy and medication/vaccine administration.
  • 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Knowledge of Value Based Care, HEDIS, CPT/ICD coding, and CAHPS/HOS Patient Experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
